It was 9:55 PM.
About time for me to end my pizza delivery shift for the day.
As I counted my cash and sorted my credit card receipts, the manager asked if I could take another run as my relief hadn’t yet arrived.
On such occasions, I typically obliged.
Traffic was light at that time, and I’d get a few extra bucks out of the deal.
Unless, of course, the customer was black, in which case my chances of receiving a tip decreased.
No, it’s not.
Not to anyone that’s spent any amount of time in a restaurant.
And not to The Cornell University School of Hotel Management, either.
In 2006 the Ivy institution released Differences in Restaurant Tipping: A Literature Review and Discussion of Practical Implications, of which professor Michael Lynn told the Los Angeles Times:
Research indicates that African Americans, on average, leave smaller tips for servers than whites do and that they’re more likely to leave nothing. -Professor Michael Lynn, Cornell University
To be clear, the study didn’t include delivery data, only dining and cab service.
But the custom works the same way across the board, for the most part, and the behavior in the study cited mirrored my experience.
But Why Do Blacks Tip Less, Statistically?
Is it a money issue? Not according to the Cornell study.
White customers were more likely to tip than blacks, even when of the same lower income status.
And I recall receiving decent gratuity in white trailer parks.
In fact, trailer dwellers often tipped better than people in million-dollar-plus homes, probably because many of them worked for tips themselves.
If it’s not money, do white servers give poor service to black patrons because they assume they won’t get tipped anyway?
Again, Cornell says no.
Black respondents admitted to tipping less or not at all, even when receiving good service.
And a separate study on cab service found that blacks tipped less regardless of the driver’s race.
So what’s the story behind the racial factor in tipping?
Based on Cornell research, many black people simply aren’t aware of gratuity customs. At least those raised in the black subculture.
Which makes sense.
Why should we expect differently when the black subculture negatively influences the community?
It’s the same subculture that equates success, punctuality, and education with “being white” and kills each other by the hundreds each year in cities like Chicago with rampant gang violence.
But of course, many white liberals are responsible for preserving these cultural and political norms that paved the way for wokeness and race hustling.
Hustlers
Despite the evidence and experience of countless servers and delivery drivers, it’s “offensive” to talk openly about racial differences in gratuity customs.
We called it “political correctness,” then it evolved into wokeness. And people make a healthy living in the woke field between official positions in human resources and organizational scams.
Consider Black Lives Matter which made millions to pay for their mansions and lavish parties.
Lone wolves are making a buck off the race hustling as well.
And they’re all counting on us to keep our mouths shut about tipping customs and other inconvenient truths.
If you recall the first installment of this newsletter, people like Colin Kaepernick made a career change into the skin game. And he’s still pushing it.
Just last week, while promoting his book, he suggested his adoptive white parents were racist because they didn’t want him looking like a thug when he was a kid.
And we’ve all heard of Rachel Dolezal, who transitioned before it was cool.
She’s the white woman that “identifies” as a black woman and became head of the Spokane NAACP chapter.
And Dolezal apparently inspired others like Raquel Evita Saraswati, a Muslim activist, who portrayed herself as a South Asian, Latina, and Arab, to gain the role of “Equity Officer” at the American Friends Service Committee.
It turns out “Saraswati” is actually Rachel Elizabeth Seidel. And her mother says, “She’s as white as the driven snow.”
Also, not long ago, Angela Davis, former Black Panther and fugitive, recently learned she is a descendant of the 101 people that came to America on the Mayflower.
One might suggest this further proves exploitation, as Davis’ white ancestor may have continued the family line via force.
That might be the case. But there were plenty of consensual relationships during that time between white men and black females, whether enslaved or not.
Consider Sarah “Sally” Hemmings, a slave with an intimate relationship with President Thomas Jefferson who gave birth to six of the former presidents’ children.
And don’t forget the loads of white women that rolled in the hay with free or enslaved black men, as noted in Martha Hodes’ 1999 book titled White Women, Black Men.
The point is our past is complicated, and we have no control over the actions of people that lived long ago.
Meanwhile, other legal scam artists like Ibram X. Kendhi continue to push critical race theory, which says modern whites are responsible for past and current oppression.
Maybe that’s partly why black people don’t tip.
Because they’ve been made to believe that white people are naturally privileged and therefore don’t need the gratuity.
Or modern blacks are somehow exempt from tipping because someone else was enslaved or mistreated years ago.
Pushing Back
But there’s good news.
People are tired of wokeness destroying our culture.
The forces that censor us from understanding why most black people don’t tip are the same influences behind government corruption and the breakdown of society.
And people are standing up.
De-transitioners like Chloe Cole have dedicated their time and energy to sharing their experience with the irreversible consequences of gender ideology.
Even sixth-grade students bravely protest ghastly material available in their school libraries.
A couple of weeks ago, Woody Harrelson compared Big Pharma to drug cartels on SNL, one of the wokest programs on TV.
And finally, Chicagoans proved they’d had enough of Lori Lightfoot’s failed leadership and gave her the boot.
Politeness Over Truth
Recently, Matt Walsh of The Daily Wire caught flack for being mean to Dylan Mulvaney, a trans-activist scam artist that’s made beaucoup bucks off the gender movement.
While people on both sides of the aisle focused on Matt’s criticisms, what stuck out to me was when he said, “we’ve prioritized politeness over truth.”
We know Dylan Mulvaney is a biological male who will never be a woman.
But that’s verboten.
And we know, from personal experience or academic studies, that most black people don’t tip.
But once again, we can’t admit it publicly.
As mentioned in the Cornell study’s conclusion, these facts are not designed to promote racial stereotypes but to educate people to resolve the root causes.
Yet people prefer to play it safe and keep quiet.
And self-censorship and being nice are what got us where we are today.
So here’s a tip for the race hustlers: start waiting tables or delivering pizzas.
Because the pendulum is swinging.
We’ve sacrificed truth on the altar of nice. -Matt Walsh
